AJ Francis Reveals WWE Backstage Heat Over Celebrity Guest Request

AJ Francis reveals he faced major backstage heat before WWE Money in the Bank 2023 when celebrity guest Expressions snubbed top stars to meet him

The former Top Dolla detailed the incident on The Wrestling Classic, explaining how his outside popularity caused immediate friction with management.

The Money In The Bank Incident

The entire situation unfolded backstage in London before Money in the Bank PLE. The celebrity fan involved was Expressions, who now works with Francis in TNA Wrestling.

WWE officials asked Expressions which marquee talents he wanted to cross paths with. However, the guest completely ignored icons like Brock Lesnar and Randy Orton. Instead, he demanded a meeting with Top Dolla.

A Victim Of Out Of The Ring Success

“When I was in WWE, sometimes you become a victim of your own success,” Francis explained regarding the fallout.

Management immediately questioned the choice. They openly asked why anyone would pick Top Dolla over established main eventers. Therefore, Francis realized that certain people in power viewed his fan connection as a negative asset.

Fortunately, his career narrative completely shifted after his departure from the global juggernaut. Francis highly praised his current tenure in TNA Wrestling.

The promotion gives him the perfect platform to showcase his true capabilities and fans are finally noticing his real talent in the ring.

“Now, when I’m in TNA, I get an opportunity to show exactly how good I am,” Francis stated. “And now people are starting to realize how good I am.”
