Betting sponsorship has become a visible part of global sports marketing, and professional wrestling has also attracted partnerships from gambling and gaming companies.
Betting logos are appearing in wrestling arenas, on advertising screens and in event broadcasts. This is despite the sport’s scripted nature, complicating the legality of betting on wrestling matches.
The Role of Betting Sponsorship in Wrestling
Brand visibility is at the core of the sponsorship between wrestling and betting. Bookmaking brands partner with wrestling companies to display their official logos and products on ringside signage, LED boards and other arena displays. As a result, betting brands can get regular exposure among the charged-up crowds during wrestling events.
A related example came in January 2025, when an iGaming software company announced multiyear sponsorship deals with UFC and WWE. Under the agreement, one of its gaming products would receive branding at select WWE marquee events. The partnership shows how gambling-related companies can use wrestling primarily for visibility even when the sponsorship itself is not tied to betting on match outcomes.
Branding exposure can also extend outside wrestling arenas. These deals can touch on social media, websites and digital coverage. Wrestling companies have many online followers, with sponsorship deals allowing gambling brands to reach these audiences without relying on live broadcasts. The aim is broader brand visibility across wrestling audiences.
Regulatory Concerns Over Betting Sponsorships in Wrestling
Pro wrestling outcomes are scripted, with some countries banning bets on sports with predetermined outcomes. In the US, WWE tried to change this approach in 2023 after urging state regulators to legalise betting on scripted outcomes. The company was targeting Colorado, Indiana and Michigan as potential states for regulation.
However, the Colorado Division of Gaming said it wouldn’t allow betting on events with predetermined outcomes, such as the Academy Awards. The regulator stated that the Centennial State has a statute prohibiting betting on fixed outcomes. On their part, the Michigan Gaming Control Board said they had not received any formal request from WWE.
The earlier push to legalise betting on WWE outcomes has also cooled. In November 2024, TKO president Mark Shapiro said betting on WWE in the US was “not happening”, pointing to the difficulty of keeping scripted results sufficiently confidential.
In Great Britain, betting on wrestling is not outside gambling regulation. Any bookmaker offering WWE markets must operate under the Gambling Commission’s licensing framework. Some licensed operators do list wrestling markets, including match winners, Royal Rumble markets and other specials. Availability varies by operator, and predetermined outcomes make these markets different from conventional sports betting.
Audience age also affects how these partnerships can be promoted. In Great Britain, gambling advertising must not be likely to have strong appeal to under-18s, particularly through associations with youth culture, personalities or content followed heavily by younger audiences. That makes the context of wrestling sponsorship important even when the underlying commercial agreement is permitted.
The Structure of Wrestling and Betting Sponsorships
More sponsorship deals may continue to appear, tending to follow a few recurring formats shaped by the rules in each market. Below are some of the main structures used in these relationships.
Free-to-Play Gaming Content
On 29 March 2021, a US sportsbook operator announced a deal to become an Official Gaming Partner of WWE. The deal didn’t include taking bets for WWE events. Instead, the operator and WWE launched a joint free-to-play pool around the two-night WrestleMania 37 event.
In this arrangement, the betting firm created prediction questions instead of asking fans to bet on traditional markets such as match winners. Some of the questions included the order of wrestling matches and how many times wrestlers would break the announcer’s table.
Arena and Broadcast Branding
Wrestling sponsorship deals can also include a gambling brand displaying its logo and products through event or broadcast assets. In the aforementioned 2021 sponsorship deal, the operator received an exclusive licence to WWE media assets and in-game branding for pay-per-view events.
Other agreements have included branding at selected WWE marquee events, showing how sponsorship exposure can extend across both physical venues and broadcast coverage.
Licensed Wrestling-Themed Casino Content
Some gambling companies enter into sponsorship deals to provide exclusive wrestling-themed content. This can include wrestling-branded promotions or games designed to reach wrestling audiences.
In July 2025, a US operator partnered with WWE to offer exclusive wrestling-themed casino games. This multi-year deal allowed the company to create and distribute WWE-themed slots and table games in states such as West Virginia and Pennsylvania.
Other Challenges Facing Wrestling Sponsorships
Another challenge is the ethical side of the sponsorship agreements. Some critics and wrestling fans may consider gambling-related promotion inappropriate given wrestling’s significant underage following. This can create potential friction between betting regulation and advertising.
Colorado’s sports-betting rules prohibit operators and their marketing affiliates from targeting underage people or placing advertising in media where the majority of the audience or participants are known to be below the legal betting age.
Ultimately
Wrestling sponsorships provide gambling and gaming companies with a way to gain visibility, but the scripted nature of the sport and its younger audience create regulatory issues that are less prominent in many traditional sports. Partnerships therefore have to operate within advertising, licensing and age-protection rules, while most US regulators continue to show little appetite for allowing bets on predetermined wrestling outcomes.
