Nick Aldis may have suffered a defeat against GUNTHER at SummerSlam, but he did not lose his position as SmackDown General Manager.
Following the event, Aldis appeared backstage alongside Triple H during the SummerSlam post-show and addressed the decision he made before stepping inside the ring against GUNTHER.
Aldis explained that he had to step away from his authority role in order to prove himself. Before facing GUNTHER, he agreed to put his position as SmackDown General Manager on the line, believing he needed to settle the issue through competition.
After the match, Aldis handed Triple H a formal letter of resignation and stated that serving WWE had been an honor.

Instead, he tore up the letter and officially reinstated Aldis as SmackDown General Manager. The decision confirmed that Aldis would continue in his leadership role despite the outcome of his SummerSlam match.
The moment ended any uncertainty surrounding Aldis’ future with WWE. He temporarily stepped away from his position to compete against GUNTHER, but the company quickly restored him once the match was over.
Although GUNTHER walked away with the victory, Aldis gained credibility by proving he could still compete against one of WWE’s most dominant performers. His decision to put his role on the line showed his commitment to resolving the conflict on his own terms.
SummerSlam ultimately became a defining moment for Aldis. Rather than ending his run as SmackDown General Manager, the match strengthened his standing and earned him public support from Triple H.
