Jon Moxley has solidified his reign atop All Elite Wrestling, defeating veteran Nigel McGuinness at AEW All In 2026 to retain the AEW Continental Championship and capture the inaugural Continental Challenge Cup.
The high-stakes final took place inside Wembley Stadium on Sunday, August 30, pitting the defending champion against McGuinness in a grueling physical encounter.
Targeted Strategy Takes Down McGuinness
Heading into the bout, McGuinness entered the ring nursing an injured ankle—a vulnerability that Moxley immediately zeroed in on from the opening bell. Moxley systematically wore down the challenger, even stripping off the protective tape supporting McGuinness’s joint to escalate the punishment.
Despite the severe physical disadvantage, McGuinness mounted a heroic rally, firing back with crisp mat-wrestling technique, using the loose tape as an opportunistic weapon, and connecting with a Tower of London that nearly secured him the victory.
Ankle Lock Stoppage Seals The Victory
Down the stretch, Moxley reasserted control by targeting the damaged joint once more. After planting McGuinness with a Curb Stomp, Moxley immediately locked in a deep ankle lock in the center of the ring.
McGuinness engaged in a desperate struggle, attempting to crawl toward the bottom rope to force a break. However, Moxley maintained firm leverage, pulling the challenger back into the center of the canvas until McGuinness was ultimately forced to tap out.
With the submission victory, Moxley successfully defends his gold while cementing his place as the first-ever winner of the Continental Challenge Cup trophy.
