Update on Road Dogg Leaving WWE Creative Team

More details have emerged regarding the departure of Brian “Road Dogg” James from WWE creative team. Earlier reports confirmed that James is no longer part of the company’s creative staff, and additional information now provides more clarity about how the situation unfolded.

According to sources within WWE, James’ exit was not related to any internal “creative readjustment,” despite some reports circulating online suggesting otherwise. Instead, the decision reportedly came directly from James himself.

James personally chose to step away from the company’s creative team. Sources indicate that he tendered his resignation during a meeting on Thursday afternoon.

During that meeting, James reportedly expressed dissatisfaction with his role before deciding to step down. Those familiar with the situation say that the move was entirely his decision.

This means that James was not released by WWE, nor was he removed from his position by company officials. The departure reportedly came after he made the choice to walk away from the role.

James had been working as part of WWE’s creative team, serving as the co-lead writer for SmackDown. His role involved helping shape storylines and creative direction for the brand.

Following the news of his departure, questions surfaced regarding previously advertised appearances during WrestleMania 42 Week in Las Vegas. Promotional listings for WWE World events showed James scheduled for meet-and-greet sessions with fans during the festivities surrounding WrestleMania.

However, sources clarified that those appearances may still happen. James remains under a WWE Legends contract, which is separate from his role as a member of the creative team.

Because the Legends agreement is independent from his previous backstage position, it is possible that James will still participate in fan-related activities during WrestleMania week even though he is no longer working behind the scenes for WWE.

James is best known to fans for his role as part of the legendary D-Generation X faction during the Attitude Era. He was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2019 alongside the rest of the group.

For now, his departure marks the end of his latest run with WWE creative, though his association with the company could continue through appearances tied to his Legends deal.
