Josh Alexander on Facing Kenny Omega in Long-Awaited AEW Dream Match – Tonight’s AEW Dynamite marks a major milestone in Josh Alexander’s career, as the former TNA World Champion finally steps into the ring with Kenny Omega in a one-on-one match for the first time ever. The bout takes place on Dynamite from Orlando, Florida, and represents more than just another singles contest for Alexander—it is the realization of a goal that has driven him for much of his career.
Speaking ahead of the show with Busted Open Radio, Alexander made it clear that a potential match with Omega was a major factor in his decision to sign with AEW during free agency. “I mean, I’m very excited. This is one of the reasons why I came to AEW,” Alexander said. “I’ve been chasing this match for the past 10 years. It’s been something that’s been on whatever you want to say — my dream match list, my bucket list. Someone I’ve had a bunch of respect for. I’ve followed his career from DDT through New Japan, everything he’s done. Like, I was at Ring of Honor shows in Markham, Ontario watching this guy wrestle in the early 2010s and stuff like that. I think he’s been amazing.”
Alexander also framed the matchup through the lens of Canadian wrestling history. “And as a Canadian wrestler, I look at other Canadian wrestlers as I’m following their footsteps. I idolize the Bret Harts, the Owens, all these people, the Edges, the Christians. And I think Kenny Omega is just another in that lineage of great Canadian wrestlers that have gone out into the world and made a name for themselves. Now I’m doing the same. I gotta walk in those footsteps and I gotta walk right through him. And tonight I finally get my opportunity, so I’m psyched.”
Alexander debuted in AEW in April 2025 and has since settled into a prominent role as a heel aligned with the Don Callis Family. He told Busted Open that his transition to AEW has been a positive experience, describing it as similar to TNA but on a larger scale, with higher production values and a more demanding travel schedule. While there was an adjustment period moving into a new locker room, Alexander noted that he has built strong relationships with his AEW peers.
“It’s good to be figured in. I love the new opponents,” Alexander said, while also admitting he was surprised by how unfamiliar some of the AEW audience was with him when he first arrived. Since then, he has enjoyed proving that he can deliver on the microphone as well as in the ring.
Alexander added that Don Callis should be on commentary for his match with Omega, further tying the bout into the ongoing Callis Family narrative. With personal motivation, national pride, and long-term ambition all colliding, tonight’s Dynamite main attraction stands as one of the most meaningful matches of Alexander’s career.
