Backstage News on AEW’s Future Plans For Kenny Omega – AEW appears to be laying the groundwork for a significant push involving Kenny Omega, with recent television segments hinting at a possible return to the AEW World Championship scene.
Omega recently teamed with The Young Bucks to face members of The Don Callis Family — Hechicero, Konosuke Takeshita, and Kazuchika Okada — during AEW Dynamite Holiday Bash. The Elite emerged victorious in that six-man tag team match, allowing them to retain the $1 million prize that had been on the line.
During this week’s episode of AEW Dynamite, a backstage interview from that match aired featuring Omega and The Young Bucks. In the segment, The Bucks revealed to Lexi Nair that they will not be medically cleared to compete for the remainder of the year. Omega, however, delivered a more intriguing tease, suggesting he had “some things to take care of,” which immediately sparked speculation about what could be next for him.
According to Fightful Select, that line was intentional and carried deeper meaning internally. One report stated, “There was a segment on AEW this week where Kenny Omega mentioned that he had to take care of some things. We’re told this specifically was to reference him possibly being in the world title scene soon.”
If accurate, this would mark a notable shift back toward the top of the card for Omega, who has largely been involved in faction-based and special attraction matches since returning from injury. Omega is a former one-time AEW World Champion, having defeated Jon Moxley to win the title at Winter Is Coming 2020. His reign lasted more than 340 days before he dropped the championship to “Hangman” Adam Page at Full Gear 2021.
Interestingly, Page is once again in the world title spotlight. Later tonight at Worlds End PPV, Page is scheduled to challenge for the AEW World Championship in a four-way match that also includes MJF, Swerve Strickland, and reigning champion Samoa Joe.
With Omega’s tease now on record and reports indicating internal discussions about his placement, AEW may be positioning one of its most decorated stars for another run at the company’s top prize as the calendar turns to 2026.
