Sheamus Injured, Out of “The Last Time Is Now” Tournament – WWE has confirmed that Sheamus has been officially removed from “The Last Time Is Now” tournament after suffering a shoulder injury that has left him medically unable to continue. The former WWE Champion earned his place in the quarterfinals with a win over Shinsuke Nakamura on RAW earlier this month, but the setback has now ended his hopes of becoming John Cena’s final career opponent.
WWE issued a statement announcing the change, noting that further details would be revealed on tonight’s episode of SmackDown. Sheamus’ absence creates a major opening in the tournament bracket, as he was expected to meet the winner of a scheduled SmackDown first-round matchup in the next round. It remains unclear whether WWE will insert a replacement competitor or grant his would-be opponent a bye into the semifinals. The restructuring of the bracket is expected to be addressed during the SmackDown broadcast.
The tournament continues tonight on SmackDown with the remaining first-round matches. “Big” Bronson Reed will take on Carmelo Hayes, while RAW competitors Finn Bálor and Penta meet in an interbrand clash. The winners from these bouts will move ahead to the quarterfinals.
Looking ahead to Monday’s RAW, the tournament will advance with two high-stakes quarterfinal matches. GUNTHER awaits the winner of Reed vs. Hayes, setting up a physical showdown on the RAW side of the bracket. In the other quarterfinal, Solo Sikoa will face the winner of the Bálor vs. Penta matchup. Both matches will determine the semifinalists as the field narrows toward naming John Cena’s opponent for Saturday Night’s Main Event on December 13.
