Matt Hardy Reflects on The Hardy Boyz vs. The Dudley Boyz’s Final Match at Bound For Glory – Matt Hardy has opened up about the emotional conclusion to one of professional wrestling’s greatest rivalries. On The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy podcast, he shared his thoughts on The Hardy Boyz’s final match against The Dudley Boyz at TNA’s Bound For Glory, describing the night as a fitting end to an era defined by respect, friendship, and legacy.
Hardy called the match a historic and deeply emotional moment for everyone involved. “It was, it was something that was epic, because it truly was the end of an era,” Hardy said. “It was the last time we would do this with these guys, that you know, that the match has been taken off the table because, because they’re done.”
He went on to describe the post-show atmosphere, noting how emotional the fans were after witnessing the end of the long-running rivalry. “I can’t tell you how many real-life testimonials I heard being there, signing autographs till 4 a.m. ‘Thank you for giving me my childhood one last time,’” Hardy recalled, reflecting on how much the moment meant to fans who grew up watching both legendary teams.
Hardy also spoke about the significance of the match for Devon Dudley, who had only competed once in the previous four years due to health issues. “I think everybody wants to go out on their own terms,” Hardy said. “Nobody wants to have a health condition and then just not be able to wrestle and not close your career with the finale that you want. And I think Devon got the opportunity to do that. Hey, let me have a match with two of my best friends, with Matt and Jeff, and let me, let me go out there and have one last battle.”
After the match, The Dudley Boyz removed their boots and handed them to The Hardys in what Hardy described as a symbolic and powerful moment. “It does. It does mean something to me,” he said. “I mean, it is the old it. I said this in that post-show promo, and they were to sit down, and it’s like the ultimate show of respect. And I feel like, you know, now part of our job is the Dudleys are finished. It is. It’s almost as if we have to bereave the Dudleys like they have moved on, they have passed on, but we have to keep them with us. Now it is our job to keep the Dudleys alive in whatever way it may be, you know.”
The Hardys and The Dudleys share one of the most storied rivalries in tag team wrestling, with their battles across WWE, ECW, and TNA defining a generation. Their final encounter at Bound For Glory served as a heartfelt tribute to their shared legacy and the fans who supported them through decades of unforgettable moments.
