Seth Rollins To Undergo Shoulder Surgery, Expected To Miss WrestleMania 42 – World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins is reportedly set to undergo shoulder surgery that could sideline him well into next year. According to the Wrestling Observer Radio, the operation is expected to require a lengthy recovery period, with Rollins likely out of action through WrestleMania 42.
Dave Meltzer confirmed that Rollins’ injury situation has reached the point where surgery is unavoidable. “Well, it looks like he’s going to need surgery on the shoulder, and that’s pretty much it,” Meltzer said. “The story that I got was that he was going to have surgery as soon as possible… he’s going to be out for a long time, probably past Mania.”
The specific recovery time will depend on the extent and nature of the shoulder damage. WWE has already removed Rollins from its upcoming Supershow tour in Japan, where he had been scheduled to face CM Punk.
The setback has created uncertainty surrounding the World Heavyweight Championship and the upcoming title match between Rollins and Punk, scheduled for November 1 at Saturday Night’s Main Event. Meltzer reported that WWE has not yet decided how to move forward with the title picture.
“As far as you know what they’re going to do about the world title, what they’re going to do about Saturday Night’s Main Event, because they got to get the Saturday Night’s Main Event thing going,” Meltzer said. He added that WWE could announce its decision as soon as this Friday’s SmackDown or the next episode of RAW.
With Rollins out indefinitely, WWE creative is exploring several potential directions. Meltzer suggested multiple options, including inserting Bron Breakker into the title match, turning it into a multi-person bout, or even launching a tournament that would conclude on November 1.
“Or maybe, Punk gets the winner of a tournament. Since Punk earned his title shot, there’s a million ways to do it,” Meltzer noted. He also emphasized that Rollins’ absence could push WWE to elevate a new top star on RAW, with Breakker positioned as a leading candidate.
