JBL Blasts Fans Who Injured Dominik Mysterio With Coin Throwing Incident in Mexico – WWE Hall of Famer JBL has spoken out strongly against the fan behavior that left Dominik Mysterio bloodied during his AAA Mega Championship defense against Dragon Lee at AAA Héroes Inmortales. The incident occurred after fans began throwing coins toward the ring — a tradition in Mexican wrestling meant to show appreciation — but in this case, one of the coins struck Mysterio in the head, causing him to bleed.
Speaking on his Something to Wrestle With podcast, JBL made it clear he believes this was not an act of respect but a deliberate attempt to harm Mysterio. While acknowledging the cultural roots of throwing coins into the ring, he condemned the misuse of the tradition and called out the fans responsible for taking it too far.
“Listen, I saw some of these comments about, hey, we need to keep the tradition… What the hell is wrong with you people?” JBL said. “They’re not throwing coins into the ring or throwing coins at Dom, you dumb asses, and you dumb asses for throwing it. You’re throwing, you got him busted open that badly. That’s not throwing a coin in the ring for hey, here’s something really cool for you, that’s throwing a coin at Dom.”
JBL didn’t mince words as he continued to reject the defense that it was a cultural norm, emphasizing that the crowd’s actions were reckless and dangerous.
“So don’t tell me about your stupid Mexican traditions and all this bullshit about how WWE is going to keep this tradition. No, do you throw these guys out of the arena?” he said. “Because what they’re doing is they’re trying to make the baby the heel or babyface, whatever he is, both, I think. That’s why they throw shit at you. They throw shit at you to make you flinch or whatever else they think is funny. That’s what they’re doing. This isn’t an old tradition of, Hey, we love you so much. They’re throwing coins at you; they’re throwing coins at him to hit him. So bullshit on all you guys out there saying, Oh, this great tradition of Mexican love, showing your love for these guys. Bullshit. This is a bunch of idiots throwing coins at somebody trying to bust them open, just like they did.”
JBL concluded by explaining that during his career, babyfaces might have money thrown at them respectfully, but as a heel, he experienced objects being hurled at him with clear intent to injure. His comments highlight the ongoing debate between preserving cultural customs and ensuring performer safety in the modern wrestling environment.
