Austin Theory Reportedly Set for Major Heel Push Upon WWE Return – As noted earlier, Dave Meltzer revealed initial details about WWE’s creative direction for this year’s men’s WarGames match at Survivor Series, and one of the biggest surprises was the inclusion of Austin Theory. Despite being out with an injury since July, Theory was listed alongside Seth Rollins, Brock Lesnar, and The Vision — a clear indication that WWE plans to elevate him into a prominent heel role once he’s cleared to compete.
Before his injury, Theory appeared to be moving in the opposite direction. His tag team with Grayson Waller had started showing cracks, with Waller blaming Theory for their losses, suggesting a potential babyface turn was in development. However, with Theory sidelined, the storyline was dropped, and Waller has since aligned with The New Day. According to Meltzer, this new creative plan marks a major shift from where Theory’s character was heading before his injury.
“Now it seems like he’s coming back as a main event level heel when he left as an undercard comedy guy,” Meltzer wrote in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter.
Meltzer also discussed WWE’s internal view of Theory, emphasizing how his look continues to earn him opportunities. “He is one of those guys who because of his look will get more chances to be a top guy even if he’s not over like a top guy, because the powers that be look at him and think ‘he looks like a star,’” Meltzer added.
A two-time United States Champion and the 2022 Men’s Money in the Bank winner, Theory has long been viewed as a future headliner. His rumored involvement in the WarGames match — teaming with Seth Rollins, Bron Breakker, Bronson Reed, and Brock Lesnar against a babyface team led by Roman Reigns and CM Punk — could mark a pivotal moment in his career, signaling WWE’s renewed investment in positioning him as a top-tier villain.
