More Details on Brock Lesnar’s Wrestlepalooza Win Over John Cena – New information has surfaced regarding the booking of Brock Lesnar’s dominant victory over John Cena at WWE Wrestlepalooza, confirming that the result was always the intended outcome. According to the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, reports of a late change to the finish—favoring Cena—are inaccurate.

The high-profile match, which opened WWE’s debut event on ESPN, immediately drew comparisons to their infamous 2014 SummerSlam encounter. Lesnar dominated Cena in decisive fashion, sparking speculation that creative plans may have been altered at the last minute, particularly with Cena’s farewell tour approaching its conclusion.

Dave Meltzer clarified that while ideas for a Cena win may have been briefly mentioned, WWE management never seriously considered having Lesnar lose in his first match back since SummerSlam 2023. “We were told that was not the case, and that Lesnar was not brought back to lose his first match. There are always discussions, and the idea may have been broached for Cena to win, as most expected, but it was never a serious discussion or ever the planned finish,” Meltzer reported.

The decision to give Lesnar such a one-sided victory was made to re-establish him as a top-tier force in WWE. Cena, known for his “bulletproof” status with fans, reportedly supported the plan to strengthen Lesnar’s aura of dominance. Meltzer added, “The match was all about making Lesnar as strong as possible, getting a last match with Cena, and the feeling Cena more than anyone, is bulletproof no matter what they do with him.”

Looking ahead, WWE intends to rebuild Lesnar as an unstoppable “monster” so that a rising star can eventually be the one to defeat him, benefiting from the rub. While no specific opponent has been confirmed, Lesnar’s booking signals a long-term plan to elevate a future talent.

Cena, meanwhile, continues his farewell tour with just five appearances remaining. His next scheduled match is against AJ Styles at WWE Crown Jewel on October 11 in Perth, Australia.
