Anthony Ogogo Returns to Action at Josh Barnett’s Bloodsport in London – AEW star Anthony Ogogo has officially stepped back into the ring for the first time in over a year, but not under the AEW or ROH banner. The Olympic bronze medalist competed at Josh Barnett’s Bloodsport event in London, England, where he defeated Brett Semtex in a hard-hitting ropeless-ring contest. The bout marked Ogogo’s first official match since a Ring of Honor Honor Club taping on August 31, 2024.
Ogogo, a former professional boxer forced to retire from boxing after being registered as blind, signed with AEW in 2019 as one of the promotion’s earliest developmental prospects. He trained at the Nightmare Factory under Dustin Rhodes and QT Marshall and quickly found himself in the spotlight. In March 2021, he debuted on AEW Dynamite as a member of Marshall’s “The Factory” and was thrust into a patriotic feud with Cody Rhodes. Their rivalry culminated at Double or Nothing 2021, where Rhodes emerged victorious.
Since that high-profile storyline, Ogogo’s AEW television appearances have been sporadic, though he re-signed with the company in January 2024. At the time, he expressed a desire to prove his value, stating in an interview, “I genuinely feel like I can headline shows in AEW.” Earlier this year, he returned to AEW programming as part of Shane Taylor Promotions alongside Shane Taylor and Lee Moriarty, with the trio appearing on both AEW Collision and Ring of Honor shows.
Ogogo’s Bloodsport victory signals a fresh start as he looks to build momentum both inside and outside of AEW. His renewed in-ring activity could lead to a stronger push for Shane Taylor Promotions and further opportunities for the British star to showcase his skills on a bigger stage.
