AJ Lee Set for WWE RAW Appearance – AJ Lee’s return to WWE is quickly gaining momentum, as a new report from PWInsider.com reveals she will appear on this Monday’s episode of RAW. The appearance will be her first on the red brand in over a decade and is expected to set up her official in-ring comeback.
Backstage chatter from last Friday’s SmackDown indicated that Lee’s RAW appearance is designed to “seal the deal” for her return match. Plans call for her to confirm the much-rumored mixed tag team showdown at WWE Wrestlepalooza on September 20, where she and her husband CM Punk will face World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins and Women’s Intercontinental Champion Becky Lynch.
The build toward this marquee match began at Clash in Paris, when Lynch interfered to help Rollins retain his title against Punk. That story continued on SmackDown, where Lee shocked fans by running in to defend Punk after Lynch repeatedly slapped him. Lee delivered a Thesz Press and a slap of her own, sending Lynch retreating to the back with Rollins. Off-air, Lee celebrated in the ring, even posing with Lynch’s championship, while Punk looked on proudly.
Wrestlepalooza, which takes place September 20 in Indianapolis, will be historic in more ways than one. Not only is it the debut of the new premium live event, but it will also mark WWE’s first major show airing on the ESPN streaming platform. A mixed tag team main event featuring Punk and Lee against Rollins and Lynch would serve as a fitting headline attraction for the new era.
Lee, who retired in 2015 due to a neck injury, has largely stayed away from the wrestling business over the past decade while focusing on writing and advocacy work. Her contract signing was made official in a video posted by WWE Chief Content Officer Triple H shortly after SmackDown, confirming that her long-anticipated comeback is now reality.
