Top Wrestling Storylines to Follow in 2025

Top Wrestling Storylines to Follow in 2025 – Wrestling is one of the sports entertainment that keeps fans on the edge of their seats. From rivalries to friendship, heel turns and baby faces, the storylines are always exhilarating. In 2025 alone, we’ve witnessed impressive pay-per-view events like the Royal Rumble, Elimination Chamber, and the all-famous WrestleMania.

Backlash came a few weeks after WrestleMania, allowing wrestling fans to resume the storyline that culminated in the two-part event in Las Vegas. True, the doors to some storylines have closed. Nonetheless, some epic rivalries are brewing. With events like Battleground, Money in the Bank, Summer Slam, and Survivor Series still in the works, there is a lot to anticipate. Let’s take a look at some of the leading wrestling storylines to follow in 2025.

John Cena – The Record 17-Time Champion

John Cena was tied with Ric Flair for the most title reigns in wrestling history, with 16 each. The former, who often makes a surprising return to WWE, made an appearance during the Elimination Chamber. To everyone’s surprise, the beloved Cena clinched his record-tying fourth win after turning heel. For the first time in 22 years, he portrayed the villain.

The Elimination Chamber match set the showdown against Cody Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Championship at WrestleMania 41. Unsurprisingly, Cena sold out the stadium and attacked Rhodes with ruthless assaults. In the end, Cena exposed one of the turnbuckles, pushed Rhodes into it twice, and hit an AA. Although Rhodes kicked out of the pin, Cena delivered a low blow to win the title.

John Cena earlier announced that WrestleMania 41 would be his last. Likewise, he wouldn’t compete after 2025. Hence, this farewell tour sets the stage for whoever will take the title back from the champion.

Seth Rollins vs. Roman Reigns

Former Shield brothers Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns became official enemies in 2014. Since then, the two wrestlers have never seen eye to eye for a long time. Over the years, Reigns and Rollins have settled their differences in the ring. During WrestleMania 31, Rollins cashed in his Money in the Bank contract to steal the WWE World Heavyweight Championship from Reigns against Brock Lesnar, further fueling the rivalry.

  • Seth Rollins attacked Roman Reigns outside the ring at Royal Rumble 2025, causing their elimination.
  • Rollins then delivered a Stomp to Reigns on the steel steps to add a new chapter to their rivalry.
  • The RAW after the elimination chamber, Rollins and CM Punk engaged in a brawl. In response, General Manager Adam Pearce scheduled a Steel Cage Match between Punk and Rollins the next week.
  • Roman Reigns returned and pulled Rollins out of the cage to exert his revenge, causing Rollins to inadvertently win the match against Punk.
  • After the match, Paul Heyman tended to Punk, an action that enraged Reigns. In the end, he attacked Punk, setting the stage for a Punk, Reigns, and Rollins triple-threat match at WrestleMania 41.

Seth Rollins won the triple-threat match with Paul Heyman’s help. But since Heyman is in the mix, we’re sure the Triple Chief will be out for blood in the coming weeks.

Jey Uso vs. Gunther

After departing the Bloodline, Jey Uso focused on Gunther’s title. Unfortunately, the first three attempts ended in a loss. As a result, Gunther felt Jey didn’t deserve a fourth title shot. He even promised to make the Road to WrestleMania hell for Jey if he chooses him.

In a twist, many fans didn’t find it shocking, Jey Uso won the Royal Rumble match and earned a shot at Gunther’s World Heavyweight Championship. The win led to a feud build-up that saw Gunther attack Jey on Raw.

Gunther even suggested Jey target the SmackDown World Champion instead. But when Jey made a SmackDown appearance, we knew it would go down in Las Vegas. Jey defeated Gunther to win the World Heavyweight Championship. However, with Gunther feeling 1:3, it is possible to stage a comeback in the coming weeks.

Iyo Sky vs. Stephanie Vaquer

Iyo Sky successfully defended her title at WrestleMania 41 with an electric win over Rhea Ripley and Bianca Belair. However, her victory parade was cut short by NXT’s Women’s Champion Stephanie Vaquer. Vaquer challenged Sky to a match, and Adam Pearce made it official that day.

The match ended in a disqualification when Giulia came out to attack Vaquer while Roxanne Perez fought Iyo. Then, Ripley came out and sent Perez off the apron with a Headbutt. Rhea handed Iyo the title and told her she was coming for it before heading out of the ring. Considering that Iyo didn’t pin Rhea in the triple threat match, it makes sense for WWE to extend their feud.

Dominik Mysterio vs. Penta

Dirty Dom defeated Finn Bálor, Penta, and defending champion Bron Breakker in a fatal four-way match to win the Intercontinental Championship. It was Dominik’s first singles championship on the main roster. However, he quickly had to defend it against Penta. JD McDonaugh helped Dominik retain his title, but the expression on Finn’s face was clear: things would get worse between them. For now, we are officially waiting for when the split will happen.

Becky Lynch vs. Lyra Valkyria

Lyra Valkyria formed an alliance with Becky Lynch after Bayley was attacked. Interestingly, they won the women’s Tag Team Titles. Sadly, they lost the title in a rematch just 24 hours after winning it. Becky helped Lyra up only to clothesline her and hit her with three Man Slams.

On April 21, while on a RAW promo, Lyra interrupted Becky and challenged her to a match on the spot. Becky rejected but agreed to a match at Backlash. Not ready to take no for an answer, Lyra attacked Becky until she ran away. Moments later, Becky knocked Lyra down from behind.

A week later, Becky came out to cut a promo, and Lyra confronted her. Lyra reversed Becky’s Man Slam attempt into a Nightwing and stood over her, holding up the title. The two women have been at each other’s throats for three weeks in a row, so we expect it to be one of the best feuds of 2025.
