Shawn Michaels Reveals Reason Behind Multi-Person Matches at NXT Stand & Deliver – As NXT prepares for its Stand and Deliver Premium Live Event this Saturday, five matches have officially been announced for the card. Of those, only one is currently being billed as a traditional singles title defense — new NXT North American Champion Ricky Saints is set to put his title on the line against the winner of a Fatal 4-Way match taking place on Tuesday’s episode of NXT.
Elsewhere on the card, the NXT Championship will be contested in a Triple Threat Match featuring Oba Femi defending against Trick Williams and Je’Von Evans. Meanwhile, NXT Women’s Champion Stephanie Vaquer will be defending her title in a Four-Way Match against Giulia, Jordynne Grace, and Jaida Parker.
During a recent appearance on The Bobby Bones Show podcast, WWE Hall of Famer and Senior Vice President of Talent Development Creative Shawn Michaels addressed the structure of the card. When asked whether wrestlers are rewarded for standout performances during major events like Stand and Deliver, Michaels explained that the number of multi-person matches is a direct result of WWE’s desire to spotlight as many talents as possible on its biggest weekend.
“We have a lot of multi person matches at Stand and Deliver. And look, a lot of people don’t like that. But these young men and women work throughout the entire year,” Michaels said. “Not all of them get an opportunity to be on PLEs, to be on those road shows, to be on those televisions that are on the road that we’ve been doing so much more of lately. We want to give as many people as we can an opportunity to perform on the biggest weekend.”
He continued, “That’s the reason people get into this line of work — to have that experience, to have those moments. And we’re hoping to have a lot of standouts at Stand and Deliver… I think it’s something that we definitely keep an eye on and any time there’s a performance or somebody that goes above and beyond whether it’s in a match or throughout the entire year, we try to take care of them as much as possible.”
NXT Stand and Deliver takes place this Saturday, April 19, as part of WWE’s WrestleMania 41 weekend lineup.
