WWE Drops “Freakin” from Seth Rollins’ Nickname – WWE has made a notable change to Seth Rollins’ ring name, removing his long-time “Freakin'” moniker from his official roster listing. For several years, Rollins had been known as “Seth ‘Freakin’ Rollins,” a nickname that was introduced by Vince McMahon in 2021. Even after Triple H took over WWE creative in 2022, Rollins continued to carry the “Freakin’” moniker. This change comes without an official explanation from WWE, but it’s likely to be met with approval from fans, who may appreciate the return to Rollins’ simpler ring name.
Rollins, who recently competed in a high-stakes Steel Cage match against CM Punk on the March 10th episode of WWE RAW, may also find the name change significant in terms of his evolving character. During this match, Roman Reigns made a dramatic return, aiding Rollins in securing the victory before attacking both Rollins and Punk.
Reflecting on his nickname, Rollins previously discussed the origin of “Freakin’” during an interview on Insight with Chris Van Vliet. He credited Vince McMahon with coming up with the idea, although he wasn’t entirely sure why McMahon chose it. Rollins explained that McMahon was simply “bored” with the name Seth Rollins and decided to add “Freakin’” to make it more memorable. Despite his initial uncertainty about the nickname, Rollins admitted it proved to be a hit with merchandise sales.
Rollins also mentioned his discomfort with some of his other character names, such as “The Drip God,” which he did not approve of. He explained that he pushed for “The Visionary” instead, but it didn’t resonate with WWE creative. As for the “Freakin’” part, Rollins eventually expressed his preference for a simpler approach. He wanted to retain the nickname in certain situations, like when he’s being introduced in a grand fashion, but preferred that it not be used all the time.
