Ric Flair and Vince Russo Clash Over John Cena – Cody Rhodes Match – Ric Flair has been outspoken about his stance on John Cena potentially defeating Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 41 to become a 17-time World Champion. Flair, who shares the record with Cena at 16 reigns, has publicly stated that he does not want Cena to surpass him.
However, former WWE, WCW, and TNA creative writer Vince Russo criticized Flair’s comments on his BroDown podcast. Russo accused Flair of trying to insert himself into the storyline by making these remarks.
Flair responded to Russo’s comments on social media, writing:
“Please @THEVinceRusso, I Thought We Agreed That You Wouldn’t Use My Name To Get A Rating! I Work For My GREAT Friend And Employer @TonyKhan, Who Allows Me To Do Things With My Daughter And Understands The Importance Of Me Being In Attendance At Events Like The Hall Of Fame!”
Russo addressed Flair directly on social media, saying:
“Ok, Ric, next time I’m asked about my Mt. Rushmore, I’ll remember you told me I can’t say your name! BTW, you think you could intro me to Tony? I don’t want a job, or anything, I’m just a mark for him.”
Russo then clarified his long-standing admiration for Flair, emphasizing that his comments were not personal. He tweeted:
“Just for the record—I’ve been a fan of @RicFlairNatrBoy longer than many of you have even been alive. But, my profession is RussosBrand.com, and it covers a profession I’ve spent 34 years in. So yeah, I’m going to have conversations about anybody and everybody. Sometimes people aren’t going to like some things I say and that’s cool. Nobody should ever get their panties in a wad over somebody else’s opinions. Because that’s all they are—Opinions.”
Despite his affiliation with AEW, Flair has been involved with WWE projects this year, including filming for the LFG documentary series on A&E. Flair’s current status with WWE remains unclear, but Tony Khan has confirmed that AEW receives compensation from Wooooo Energy for his appearances.
