AEW star Steven Borden details frightening concussion symptoms and recovery frustration following a serious head injury suffered at the AEW All Out pay-per-view on September 26.
Appearing alongside tag team partner Darby Allin on First Coast News in Jacksonville ahead of the Blood & Guts special, Borden reflected on being knocked unconscious and the mental challenge of passing medical protocol while physically feeling healthy.
Concussion Recovery Frustrations And Darby Allin’s Reality Check
Describing the process of sitting on the sidelines due to protocol rather than a physical tear or structural damage, Borden admitted the time away was mentally grueling:
“It feels great to be back. So I got concussed, I was knocked out for a little bit. It’s weird though because with injuries, like when you’re sidelined, normally you can feel it, like you tore something in your knee or whatever. And so you know as much as you want to get back in the action, you can’t.”
“But for me, I felt fine. So it’s just this weird thing of, like, I wanted to be back out there, but I couldn’t. And now that I’m back, it feels pretty dang good.”
Allin immediately interrupted to offer a far more dramatic timeline of the knockout during their tag team match against Kevin Knight and Kyle Fletcher:
“A little bit? You were snoring for six minutes straight. It wasn’t a little bit. It was a lot of bit.”
The All Out Injury And Blood & Guts Match Setup
The stoppage occurred at All Out when Borden struck his head while attempting a double coast-to-coast maneuver, forcing the referee to halt the match and award the win to Knight and Fletcher.
After making his television return on AEW Dynamite, Borden joins Allin, The Young Bucks, Adam Copeland, and Will Ospreay in the high-stakes Blood & Guts cage match against Knight, Fletcher, Mark Davis, Jake Doyle, Wardlow, and Kazuchika Okada.
