Fresh off capturing his first main roster title on WWE RAW in Brooklyn, Ethan Page reacted to his Intercontinental Title win by admitting that the major career milestone has left him feeling surprisingly unfulfilled.
Page dethroned Chad Gable at the Barclays Center, becoming the 96th individual wrestler to hold the historic Intercontinental Championship and ending Gable’s 92-day reign. However, during a post-show appearance on WWE Now, “All Ego” confessed that reaching his ultimate goal so quickly has altered his perspective on the future.
Reassessing Goals And Dragging The Cart
Reflecting on his rapid rise to the top of the midcard division, Page expressed confusion over why achieving his dream didn’t deliver the expected emotional payoff:
“Look, I feel weird, mostly because this is the ultimate goal, and now that I’ve achieved it so early and so quickly, it’s like skewed, I guess my view of the future. I don’t know why I thought it would be so hard to obtain this, and then it happens so fast that I feel like I should reassess my goals.”
“Which happens to me a lot in my life. And I think that’s why I feel nothing, because I just know it’s like, I’m gonna do something great again, I’m sure.”
The Mental Toll Of Continuous Pursuit
Page also referenced a backstage sit-down with Jackie Redmond, pointing out that his obsessive focus on the destination prevents him from appreciating the moment:
“You know what? Actually, I just did an interview with Jackie, I gave her my thoughts, and I had said that it was extremely sad that I never got to witness myself actually win the Intercontinental Championship. And I think that actually is the precipice of everything. I don’t actually get to enjoy the journey, I’m the one like dragging the cart behind me, kind of thing.”
Despite his subdued personal reaction, Page’s win marks the 193rd title change in the championship’s history.
