Former WWE referee Jimmy Korderas slammed the closing sequence of Blood & Guts special, arguing that Darby Allin high-risk stunts have desensitized fans after years of repetitive spots.
During the November 4 episode of AEW Dynamite, Wardlow launched Allin off the top of the steel cage through a stack of tables on the floor. Analyzing the moment in a social media video, Korderas replayed the footage and asked viewers to pay close attention to the crowd’s response:
“Okay, I want you to watch and hear this if you can. Here we go. Did you hear that? I certainly didn’t.”
Crowd Desensitization and Stunt Frequency
Korderas highlighted how taking dangerous falls week after week diminishes the emotional impact for live audiences, explaining that fans no longer react with shock when Allin hits the floor:
“The fact is Darby Allen has committed so many of these crazy stunts that he has completely desensitized his audience to what he does now. He doesn’t get a desire, he doesn’t get the holy reaction anymore. He gets the, oh, he went through another table. That’s exactly what happened. The crowd just doesn’t care anymore because they expect it from him.”
He urged the wrestler to change his approach, comparing repetitive table spots to abusing classic moves:
“When you expect something like that, then it doesn’t mean anything. It’s like anything else you do. When you do the pile driver too many times, when you. When you go through tables too many times, when you do anything like that too many times. People don’t care anymore because they’ve seen it too often and they’ve seen it too much from Darby Allen. He needs to change it up.”
Character Evolution and Roster Stagnation
Expanding his critique beyond a single spot, Korderas argued that lack of character development across the original roster contributes directly to broader business challenges:
“That’s the problem with a lot of wrestlers in AEW since day one. The guys that have been there since day one, the OG AEW guys, nothing has changed from their original presentation. From day one to seven years later, they have not evolved one bit. And that is hurting them immensely. And that could be one of the reasons why they are hurting in live attendance. Except for pay per views, of course. But as far as Darby Allen goes, that is why I believe this is hurting him.”
The veteran referee added that having Allin’s fall overshadow the actual finish of the Blood & Guts match was a mistake, concluding that Darby Allin must reinvent his presentation rather than taking progressively bigger risks.
