AEW star and Death Riders member Claudio Castagnoli confirmed he is currently not medically cleared to return to the ring.
Castagnoli shared the injury update while attending the League of Legends World Championship, explaining that his current medical status freed up his schedule to attend the e-sports event in person.
Injury Confirmation and E-Sports Appearance
Speaking with The Load-In at the e-sports tournament, Castagnoli addressed his status while drawing parallels between pro wrestling audiences and video game fandoms:
- Medical Status: “It’s been great. (I’m) not medically clear right now, so I was just sitting around at home. So they asked me if I wanted to come here, see Worlds, and I’m like, ‘Yeah definitely, 100%. I’ll be there.’”
- Comparing Fan Bases: “What impressed me, and I had the chance to go to China for the LPL a few years ago, and then here again, it’s the passion of the fans. It’s the passion of the fans for their team, for the game, and how they show it. It’s very similar to pro wrestling. They have signs, they come early, they dress up their jerseys it’s like they show their passion and they’re proud. Proud of their heart.”
Absence from AEW Television and Full Gear
Castagnoli has been off television since the August 28 episode of AEW Dynamite, where he attempted to save his fellow Death Riders from an attack by The Cut before being overwhelmed by the group.
With Claudio Castagnoli injury concerns keeping him off the card for AEW Full Gear, there is currently no official timetable for his return to in-ring competition.
