TKO Group Holdings Executive Chairman Ari Emanuel has taken a firm stance on the future of the combat sports and entertainment conglomerate, declaring that the parent company of WWE and UFC will never be put up for sale.
“Zero Chance” Of Sale Despite Media Industry Consolidation
Appearing on The Town podcast with host Matt Belloni to promote his new book Roll The Calls, Emanuel was repeatedly pressed to identify an ideal future buyer for TKO, with Belloni suggesting major media giants like Amazon or Paramount as logical suitors down the line.
Emanuel flatly rejected the premise, stating unequivocally that TKO will remain independent:
“No, it won’t. No. Never… No. No, not for sale. Never.”
When asked to elaborate on why TKO would remain off the market despite rampant consolidation across the sports and entertainment landscape, Emanuel highlighted the long-term strategic vision established alongside Silver Lake Co-CEO Egon Durban and the unique value of owning global sports properties:
“Why would it be? Here’s the great thing. In 2016, Egon Durban, Mark, myself, Patrick, we saw where sports was going and saw where the streamers were going. At the time, people thought that the value — [that] we were crazy to pay what we did when we bought IMG [or] crazy that we paid the two cheapest acquisitions of all time in the sports space.”
Sports As “The Greatest Reality Show Of All Time”
Expanding on why sports assets will continue to appreciate in value, Emanuel pointed toward shifting consumer habits, increased leisure time, and the rise of artificial intelligence as drivers for live entertainment demand:
“As my son Leo says to me, Thursday is baby Friday. With AI, probably Wednesday is going to be the baby Thursday. There’s going to be more free time than ever. If we grow at 3% GDP, we’re going to have more money than we’ve ever had with AI in my opinion, and I agree with that. Take all the bad things that could happen, you’re sitting in a situation that there’s going to be more time for people to consume entertainment or [be] social animals. Go out, go to sporting events, consume sports. Sports is the greatest reality show of all time. Owning sports assets — now people are trying to own teams — we own four leagues. It’s an incredible asset. The value is going up and to the right. Egon Durban, myself — there’s no chance that that’s happening. Zero.”
Under TKO Group Holdings, WWE and UFC continue to operate as high-yield live event and media powerhouses, solidifying Emanuel’s belief that controlling full leagues rather than individual sports franchises positions the company for unprecedented growth.
