Chelsea Green Introduced as WWE Women’s Champion Amid Ongoing Title Uncertainty

Chelsea Green’s championship status took an unexpected turn on the August 7 edition of WWE SmackDown, where she was formally introduced as the new WWE Women’s Champion—just days after winning the Interim version of the title at SummerSlam. The announcement came from Joe Tessitore, who referred to Green without the “interim” designation as she appeared for an in‑ring celebration.

The change in presentation immediately raised questions about the status of the championship. WWE’s website no longer lists Rhea Ripley as the official titleholder following her recent injury and surgery, though Green is still labeled as the interim champion on the roster page. The discrepancy has fueled speculation that WWE may be preparing to officially recognize Green as the full champion.

Ripley’s injury has been a major factor in the division’s direction. She recently underwent surgery and, according to reports, Ripley might vacate the title depending on her recovery timeline. With Ripley sidelined indefinitely, Green’s introduction on SmackDown may be the first sign of a transition.

Chaos Erupts After Green’s SmackDown Appearance

Later in the night, Green found herself back in the ring—this time alongside Tiffany Stratton in a tag team match against The Fatal Influence. The duo came up short, and the situation worsened immediately after the bell. The Irresistible Forces stormed the ring, attacking both Stratton and Green in a post‑match beatdown.

The segment ended with Nia Jax standing tall, raising the WWE Women’s Championship over her head as Green lay on the mat. The visual added another layer of uncertainty to the title picture, leaving fans questioning whether WWE is preparing for a vacancy, a storyline dispute, or a formal coronation for Green.

With Ripley out, Green introduced as champion, and Jax making a statement, the WWE Women’s Championship scene is now one of the most unpredictable parts of SmackDown heading into the fall.
