Backstage Update Raises Concern Over El Hijo del Vikingo Injury

There is growing concern surrounding El Hijo del Vikingo after a new backstage report suggested that his recent injury could be more serious than initially expected.

The AAA star was originally scheduled to compete on the June 30 episode of NXT, where he was set to defend the AAA Latin American Championship against EK Prosper. However, the match was pulled at the last minute after Vikingo suffered an injury during rehearsals. WWE addressed the sudden change on television by airing a backstage segment that showed Keanu Carver attacking Vikingo, providing a storyline explanation for his absence.

Initial reports indicated that the injury involved Vikingo’s knee, with WWE waiting on MRI results to assess the extent of the damage. A new update has since added more uncertainty to the situation. Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer shared a concerning note about the condition. “I heard, by the way, this weekend, it could be serious,” Meltzer said. Bryan Alvarez followed up with a similar reaction, stating, “Yeah, it doesn’t sound good.”

Despite the injury angle airing on NXT, Vikingo still appeared on the July 3 episode of SmackDown. That appearance, however, was taped earlier on June 29 in Atlantic City, before the injury occurred. This explains why he was able to compete despite being written off television days later.

During that SmackDown match, Vikingo faced Rey Fenix for the AAA Cruiserweight Championship. While he did not win the match, the performance marked a strong introduction to WWE’s main roster audience. The bout showcased his high-risk style and athletic ability, which have made him one of the most talked-about talents in recent years.

At 29 years old, Vikingo is reportedly under WWE contract, which separates him from several other AAA wrestlers who have worked with the company through partnerships. This makes his injury status even more important as WWE evaluates its plans moving forward.

For now, the focus remains on the pending medical evaluation. The severity of the knee injury will determine how long Vikingo could be sidelined and what impact it may have on his momentum following his recent appearances.
