A match that had been building for weeks is now official, as Darby Allin will face Andrade El Idolo at AEW Dynasty later this month.
The bout was confirmed during Wednesday’s episode of AEW Dynamite when Allin made his way to the ring and called out AEW World Champion MJF. Instead of MJF appearing, Don Callis came out alongside members of his Family.
Callis revealed that MJF had paid his group to deliver a message. According to Callis, if Allin can defeat a hand-picked member of the Family, he will earn a future AEW World Championship opportunity. Callis then selected Andrade as Allin’s opponent, a decision that appeared to catch Andrade off guard.
The storyline ties back to previous weeks, when Callis presented Andrade with a case full of money on behalf of MJF with the expectation that he would take out Allin. Notably, it was not stated that Andrade would receive a title opportunity if he wins the match.
This upcoming clash will mark the third singles meeting between Allin and Andrade in AEW. Their first encounter took place in March 2022 on Dynamite, followed by a rematch one month later in a coffin match. The series is currently tied at one win apiece. In addition to those matches, the two have also shared the ring in a TNT Championship three-way match and a tornado trios bout, both in 2022.
The match was the only new addition announced for the AEW Dynasty card during the broadcast.
