John Cena has officially confirmed his return to WWE programming, announcing that he will serve as the host of WrestleMania 42.
Cena shared the news on social media, addressing his post-retirement life and revealing his role for WWE’s biggest event of the year.
“Since retirement, my road has looked a little different but now I can officially say I’m headed to WrestleMania,” Cena wrote. “See you in Las Vegas!”
The announcement answers recent speculation about how Cena would remain involved with WWE after stepping away from in-ring competition. Earlier this month, during an appearance at MegaCon in Orlando, he hinted that he had found a new way to contribute to the company, which has now been confirmed with his role as host.
Cena officially retired from WWE competition in December, losing to GUNTHER at Saturday Night’s Main Event. His retirement followed a historic career that included winning his 17th world championship at WrestleMania 41, where he defeated Cody Rhodes.
WrestleMania 42 is scheduled for April 18 and 19 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. The event is shaping up with a loaded card as WWE builds toward its biggest weekend of the year.
Current WrestleMania 42 card:
- World Heavyweight Championship match: CM Punk (c) vs. Roman Reigns
- Women’s World Championship match: Stephanie Vaquer (c) vs. Liv Morgan
- WWE Women’s Championship match: Jade Cargill (c) vs. Rhea Ripley
- Undisputed WWE Championship match: Cody Rhodes (c) vs. Randy Orton
- Brock Lesnar vs. Oba Femi
- Women’s Intercontinental Championship match: AJ Lee (c) vs. Becky Lynch
- Jacob Fatu vs. Drew McIntyre
- United States Championship match: Sami Zayn (c) vs. Trick Williams
With John Cena now confirmed as host, his presence adds another major name to an already stacked WrestleMania 42 lineup, even as his role shifts away from active competition.
