Ricochet Says WWE Run Tarnished His Wrestling Legacy

Ricochet Says WWE Run Tarnished His Wrestling Legacy – Ricochet has built a career that spans the independent scene, NJPW, Lucha Underground, WWE, and now AEW. Throughout that journey, he has captured championships in every major promotion he has worked for. However, Ricochet has made it clear that his time in WWE is not a period he looks back on favorably.

The discussion resurfaced recently when Ricochet responded to a social media post featuring a clip of one of his WWE matches against AJ Styles. Rather than celebrating the moment, Ricochet distanced himself from that version of his career, stating that the performer shown in the video no longer represents who he is today.

“That’s not me. That was a watered down, different universe version of me. Two completely different people.”

Ricochet expanded on those feelings during an appearance on The Mark Hoke Show, where he compared his WWE run to being removed from his true path as a wrestler. He described those years as a disconnect from his identity in the ring and suggested that the period had a negative effect on how his career is viewed.

“That’s how I put Ricochet’s wrestling career, is like that five years was being blipped away to a different universe. It just wasn’t what I was doing, it wasn’t me, and coming back to AEW and finding that love it’s like when Tony Stark finally defeated Thanos and all those people came back. That’s kind of how I feel like Ricochet finally came back to what he was doing…that five years really tarnished Ricochet’s wrestling legacy.”

Since arriving in AEW in the summer of 2024, Ricochet has quickly repositioned himself as a top-level performer. He debuted at All In as a participant in the Casino Gauntlet match and immediately entered the title picture. His momentum continued as he captured the inaugural AEW National Championship at Full Gear, establishing himself as a centerpiece of the promotion.

Ricochet’s resurgence has also extended beyond AEW. He returned to NJPW and headlined Wrestle Dynasty at the Tokyo Dome, challenging for the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship. As AEW National Champion, he has defended the title across AEW, ROH, CMLL, and the independent circuit, further reinforcing his standing as a global-level talent.
