Dustin Rhodes Says Goldust Run Is Over, Praises AEW Work – Dustin Rhodes became widely known in the late 1990s for portraying Goldust in WWE. After leaving the company, he had runs in WCW and TNA before eventually returning to WWE for another stint. Today, he is part of AEW, and he says that chapter of his career is firmly behind him.
When a fan on social media suggested he should go back to WWE as Goldust, Rhodes responded directly. He wrote, “Nope! I never got a raise there. What, you want me sitting the bench doing nothing? That ain’t me anymore. I have done the best work of my career with @AEW. I love the character Goldust, but he ran its course. I did what I was told and it got me nowhere. No thanks.”
His comments leave little room for doubt. Rhodes expressed appreciation for the Goldust character but said it had reached its natural end. He also pointed to his current run in AEW as the strongest stretch of his career.
Rhodes is currently recovering from double knee replacement surgery, which he underwent in August. At the time of the procedure, he was holding championship gold in Ring of Honor. He was one-half of the ROH Tag Team Champions alongside Sammy Guevara. He was also one-third of the ROH Six-Man Tag Team Champions with Marshall Von Erich and Ross Von Erich. Due to his injury and recovery, both titles were vacated.
In late 2024, Rhodes signed a new six-year contract with AEW, signaling a long-term commitment to the company. Based on his recent remarks, he remains focused on his present role and has no interest in revisiting his past persona in WWE.
