Big Title Matches Announced for AEW Grand Slam Australia – The lineup for Grand Slam Australia on February 14 in Sydney continued to take shape following the February 4 episode of AEW Dynamite. Several key matches and title bouts were confirmed as the promotion builds toward the international event.
The main event of Dynamite featured a World Title eliminator between Brody King and MJF. The match ended quickly after Hangman Page created a distraction at ringside. King capitalized by locking in a sleeper on the apron before bringing MJF back into the ring and finishing him with the Gonzo Bomb for the victory. With the win, King secured a future AEW World Championship opportunity, setting up a rematch at Grand Slam Australia with the title on the line.
Hangman Page will also compete at the event in a World title eliminator match against Andrade El Idolo. The bout will determine the next challenger for the AEW World Championship at Revolution next month. Both men advanced after winning singles matches on Dynamite, with Page defeating Mark Davis and Andrade overcoming Kenny Omega.
The Andrade-Omega contest included controversy. Don Callis attempted to interfere by throwing a screwdriver to Andrade, which prompted Swerve Strickland to intervene. Referee Aubrey Edwards became distracted during the commotion, allowing Andrade to land a low blow followed by his finishing move to secure the pinfall. After the match, Omega and Strickland argued at ringside before security stepped in.
Another title match set for Sydney will see AEW Continental Champion Jon Moxley defend his championship against Konosuke Takeshita. The bout was announced on Dynamite after both competitors appeared in a trios match tied to the ongoing rivalry between the Death Riders and the Don Callis Family. This will mark Moxley’s first defense since winning the title at Worlds End in the Continental Classic.
The AEW Women’s World Tag Team Championships will also be defended at the event. Babes of Wrath, Willow Nightingale and Harley Cameron, will face Megan Bayne and Penelope Ford after the challengers earned a title opportunity by defeating the champions in a title eliminator match on Dynamite. The defense will be Nightingale and Cameron’s third.
