WWE Reportedly Changing WrestleMania 42 plans

WWE Reportedly Changing WrestleMania 42 plans – WWE appears to have made a major change to its early plans for WrestleMania 42, according to new reporting from Dave Meltzer.

Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Meltzer said WWE adjusted its WrestleMania direction last week, around the same time the company decided to move the WWE Championship to Drew McIntyre. While the full lineup for WrestleMania is not yet known, Meltzer noted that a previously expected match between Cody Rhodes and Roman Reigns is now unlikely to take place at the event.

One idea that has been discussed internally is a potential triple threat match involving McIntyre, Rhodes, and Jacob Fatu for the WWE Championship. However, Meltzer stressed that this match is not confirmed and may not necessarily happen at WrestleMania itself.

“WrestleMania changed on Wednesday of last week, which was when they made the decision to go with the McIntyre title win,” Meltzer said. “So that wasn’t decided until Wednesday. I don’t know what the new matches are, although they may be doing a three-way with McIntyre, Jacob Fatu, and Cody Rhodes. That may not necessarily be at Mania, but that’s kind of — that’s not even 100 percent, but I was told that that’s kind of like, it’s a possibility. The Cody Rhodes/Roman Reigns thing is probably not happening. But whatever it is, the Mania plans were changed on Wednesday when they made the decision to change the championship.”

Meltzer added that the exact reason behind the change is not clear. He speculated that WWE may have wanted to make the road to WrestleMania feel less predictable, while also committing to McIntyre as the WWE Champion.

McIntyre captured the WWE Championship by defeating Rhodes in a Three Stages of Hell match on January 9. The title change took place in Germany during WWE’s ongoing European tour. Jacob Fatu played a role in the finish, which directly influenced the outcome of the match.

Following his championship win, McIntyre is scheduled to appear on SmackDown this Friday in London. More details about WWE’s WrestleMania direction are expected to become clearer after Royal Rumble 2026, which will take place in Saudi Arabia later this month.

WrestleMania 42 is set for Las Vegas and will be held over two nights on Saturday, April 18, and Sunday, April 19.
