WWE Considered Start Time Change for Saturday Night’s Main Event in Montreal – WWE officials reportedly explored a possible adjustment to the start time of the upcoming Saturday Night’s Main Event in Montreal, according to a report from WrestleVotes Radio on Fightful Select. The special event is scheduled for January 24 at the Bell Centre and will air live on NBC and Peacock, marking another high-profile broadcast under the WWE banner.
The internal discussions focused on the possibility of moving the show up by one hour. The motivation behind the idea was to avoid a direct clash with a major UFC broadcast taking place the same night. WrestleVotes Radio reported that UFC’s debut on Paramount Plus is set to begin at 9 PM Eastern Time, creating a potential overlap between two major combat sports events owned by the same parent company.
The UFC event is part of the promotion’s new media deal with Paramount, which is reportedly experimenting with earlier start times for its marquee shows. With both WWE and UFC operating under the TKO Group Holdings umbrella, the concern was that running head-to-head could split viewership and impact overall audience numbers across platforms.
A TKO representative reportedly addressed the situation while speaking to Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful, describing the scheduling discussions as an example of “corporate synergy.” The philosophy behind the talks was to maximize exposure and ratings for both properties rather than forcing fans to choose between them. TKO has previously coordinated schedules between WWE and UFC to limit audience overlap, especially on nights featuring major events.
Despite the internal consideration, WWE ultimately decided not to move forward with the time change. The report states that Saturday Night’s Main Event will remain in its originally scheduled time slot. This means fans attending the event in Montreal, as well as viewers watching on NBC and Peacock, will not need to adjust their plans.
Keeping the original start time also maintains consistency with WWE’s advertised schedule, which can be a key factor in live attendance and television viewership. While the idea of a change was explored behind the scenes, the final decision reflects confidence in the event’s ability to perform without adjustment, even with significant competition on the same night.
