Jackie Redmond Opens Up About Creative Freedom in WWE Role

Jackie Redmond Opens Up About Creative Freedom in WWE Role – It has been four years since Canadian sports broadcaster Jackie Redmond joined WWE as a backstage reporter, and her role with the company continues to evolve. Despite having no prior experience in the wrestling industry before signing with WWE, Redmond revealed that the company placed immediate trust in her ability to handle live television and character-driven interviews.

Speaking on Insight with Chris Van Vliet, Redmond explained that one of the most rewarding parts of her WWE experience has been the creative flexibility she is given during backstage segments. Rather than strictly following scripted dialogue, Redmond said WWE has encouraged her to approach interviews in a more natural and authentic way.

“One of the things I love about what we’re doing with WWE right now is we are trying to be more authentic and we are trying to be more real about what we’re doing,” Redmond said. “And WWE has really been great for me in terms of being like, ‘hey you don’t need to follow a script, like if we talk beforehand that this is the question that we need you to ask, however you get there is fine with us, if you do it within the allotted time.’ So that’s been really helpful for me that I kind of have that support.”

She added that her role goes beyond simply asking questions on camera. Redmond views herself as someone who helps guide WWE Superstars toward the points they need to hit in their promos or storylines.

“I’m trying to help superstars go where they need to go, and so, I very much consider myself sort of like a tool in that way,” she explained.

Outside of WWE, Redmond has built a long and respected career in sports broadcasting. She has covered hockey for more than a decade, working with major outlets such as the NHL Network and Sportsnet. She also hosted her own program, The Jackie Redmond Show, which featured interviews with players and coaches, along with weekly highlights and analysis.

However, her professional focus shifted late last year. In November, Redmond announced that she would be stepping away from her role at the NHL Network. The decision was made so she could fully commit to her responsibilities with WWE, signaling how central her role with the company has become.

Redmond’s comments offer insight into WWE’s evolving approach to backstage segments, where authenticity and personality are becoming just as important as scripted structure. Her experience highlights how WWE is increasingly relying on trusted broadcasters to bring a more natural tone to its weekly programming.
