CM Punk Explains Why He Skipped WWE Unreal Season 2 – CM Punk has shared his reasoning for choosing not to take part in the sit-down interview segments for the upcoming second season of WWE: Unreal. The Netflix docuseries is set to return on January 20, and Punk addressed the topic while appearing on the Notsam Wrestling podcast.
During the interview, the reigning World Heavyweight Champion made it clear that he was not enthusiastic about the project. Punk said his feelings are shared by others on the roster and explained that he declined repeated requests from the production team to film interviews for the new season.
“I share the sentiment with a few guys on the roster. I’m not super thrilled about it.
I know they’re asking me to do an interview for it… and I kept saying, ‘no, no, I’m not gonna be [there],’” Punk said. “And we never did the interview. So I don’t know if that means I’m not in it, but I also, like, there’s a camera in my face everywhere I go, so I’m sure I’ll pop up.”
Punk went on to explain that he simply avoids situations where he knows cameras are present if he does not want to be filmed. He said this approach allows him to maintain some personal space despite WWE’s increased behind-the-scenes coverage.
“If I don’t want them to shoot something, I just go, ‘don’t shoot it right?’ Or, ‘I know there’s cameras waiting here. I’ll go walk somewhere else.’”
While Punk was critical of the process, he did acknowledge positives from the first season of WWE: Unreal. He said he enjoyed how the series presented wrestlers in a more human light, mentioning several performers by name.
“I watched the first season, and I really, really liked it, because I thought it kind of brought a human element to like Charlotte [Flair] or Rhea [Ripley], or even me, to an extent,” Punk said.
Punk also addressed fans who openly criticize the show while continuing to watch it. He pushed back against what he views as unnecessary negativity from viewers.
“Nobody’s got a gun to your head, right? You don’t got to watch it,” Punk said. “Why are you commenting? ‘I hate this. I hate this so much. Tomorrow I’m gonna review season two.’ Don’t.”
Despite opting out of direct participation, Punk’s comments suggest he understands the appeal of the series, even if he prefers to keep his distance from it.
