Bishop Dyer Reflects on AEW Dark Match Experience and Tony Khan’s Reaction – As noted, Bishop Dyer, formerly known as Baron Corbin, competed in a dark match before the January 21 edition of AEW Dynamite, teaming with Martin Stone, Hadar Horvitz, and Ori Gold in a losing effort against Austin Gunn, Billy Gunn, Brady Booker, and Elijah Drago. While the match did not air on television, it marked Dyer’s first in-ring appearance connected to AEW and provided him with a notable experience behind the scenes.
Following the match, Dyer discussed the opportunity during an appearance on Off The Ropes with Jonathan Coachman, where he spoke about Tony Khan’s response and their brief interaction afterward. According to Dyer, the conversation was short but positive, with Khan expressing genuine enjoyment of the match. “I know Tony [Khan] told me afterwards, he was like, ‘The match was so fun. I enjoyed it,’ and obviously, he’s working his ass off back there,” Dyer said. “I’m not gonna bother him with anything other than, ‘Thank you for allowing me to do that with Billy and Austin’ so that was the extent of our conversation.”
Dyer also emphasized that the biggest takeaway from the night had little to do with backstage discussions and far more to do with the audience response. He described the crowd as energetic and fully engaged, making the experience especially memorable. “The highlight of my day was not only being in the ring, with that crowd, because the crowd was just f**ing awesome through and through,”* he explained.
Beyond the match itself, Dyer shared details about traveling with Paul Wight, noting that the entire day turned into a longer-than-expected journey due to scheduling changes caused by an incoming snowstorm. AEW opted to tape Collision after Dynamite, keeping talent at the venue late into the night. Dyer recalled driving Wight from Tampa to Orlando and back, finally returning well after midnight. “Great time, great stories. I love that man to death,” Dyer said, reflecting on the experience.
While Dyer’s AEW appearance generated attention, his primary focus remains with Major League Wrestling. He is currently one-half of the MLW World Tag Team Champions alongside Donovan Dijak, a reign that began in June 2025. As of now, there has been no indication that his AEW dark match appearance signals anything beyond a one-off opportunity.
