WWE Not Actively Hiring Talent From AEW Or TNA – WWE has reportedly put a pause on bringing in new talent from rival promotions, telling wrestlers from both AEW and TNA that the company is not currently looking to hire. According to Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE officials believe their developmental pipeline is already loaded with talent that is close to, or ready for, main roster opportunities.
Meltzer noted that this message has been delivered to multiple wrestlers who have recently reached out to WWE, including talent from TNA and AEW. While TNA recently secured a new television deal that suggests financial stability, there is still internal uncertainty within the promotion that has led some wrestlers to explore outside options.
“We were told that of late talent from both TNA and AEW who have called WWE have been told that they aren’t looking at hiring new people,” Meltzer reported. “The idea is that they have so many in developmental, many of whom are ready that they don’t need new people.”
The report emphasizes that this stance is not an absolute hiring freeze. WWE is still expected to make exceptions for elite-level or uniquely valuable talent if the opportunity arises. Meltzer clarified that established stars or special cases would not necessarily fall under this restriction.
“This is not an absolute, and obviously guys the level of Jericho or Slater wouldn’t necessarily fall into that category,” Meltzer added.
The timing of this report coincides with recent contract activity in TNA Wrestling. Several key names, including Jake Something, Steve Maclin, Zachary Wentz, and AJ Francis, have reportedly signed short-term extensions lasting approximately three months. These deals are said to keep them under contract through the early part of 2026, offering flexibility but also reinforcing the perception of instability within the promotion.
That sense of uncertainty has reportedly been a driving factor behind some wrestlers testing the waters with WWE, only to be met with resistance due to the company’s confidence in its current system. WWE’s Performance Center and NXT roster have continued to expand, with officials believing they have more than enough talent to fill future needs without relying heavily on outside acquisitions.
This approach follows WWE’s recent signing of former TNA World Champion Joe Hendry, who has already transitioned into the NXT system. While Hendry’s signing shows WWE is still willing to act when the right opportunity presents itself, the broader message appears clear for now: WWE believes its future stars are already in-house.
