Backstage Update on WWE’s Plans for Santos Escobar – After months away from WWE television, a new report suggests that Santos Escobar may finally be nearing a major return — and that WWE is circling back to long‑term plans involving both NXT and AAA.
During a recent Self Made Session on YouTube, Self Made Pro revealed that WWE and AAA are revisiting early creative ideas for Escobar now that other storylines have run their course. According to the report, Escobar is expected to receive a significant push in AAA in the near future.
“Also waiting in the wings — and you can expect this very soon in Triple A — is Santos Escobar, who’s set to get a big push,” they said. “They’ve wanted to push him pretty much since the partnership began.”
Escobar was originally positioned to win the AAA Mega Championship, but WWE shifted direction when other acts — including Dominik Mysterio and El Grande Americano — became breakout favorites with the AAA audience. With those storylines now winding down, WWE is reportedly ready to return to its initial plans.
“There were early plans for him to win the Mega Championship, but that was before Dominik got so over in Triple A, before El Grande Americano got so over, and before they assumed Vikingo would be a babyface. Now they’re going to circle back to those plans with Santos.”
This update aligns with what Bryan Alvarez previously reported on Wrestling Observer Live following Escobar’s quiet signing of a major new WWE contract in October 2025. Alvarez noted that WWE intentionally kept Escobar off TV until they had a creative direction worthy of the investment.
“I know he signed a new contract, and I know it was a very big contract,” Alvarez said. “They’re not gonna sign this guy to this kind of money and not push him.”
Escobar reportedly requested a personal meeting with Triple H before signing the deal, wanting clarity on his future. WWE granted the meeting, and the contract was finalized.
For now, Escobar remains off-screen aside from a cryptic social media post reading, “Waiting patiently.” But with his new deal in place and creative plans finally aligning, his return appears to be getting closer.
