Shayna Baszler Discusses Future Coaching Possibilities – Shayna Baszler has acknowledged that a long-term transition into coaching could eventually become part of her professional path, but she made it clear that her current priority is to remain active as an in-ring competitor. After being released from WWE in May, Baszler spent time working behind the scenes in NXT while she waited for her 90-day non-compete clause to expire, gaining early experience in a developmental and instructional environment. Reports later stated that WWE has interest in bringing her back in a producer or coaching capacity, but there are no deals in place at this time and she continues to wrestle independently.
During a recent interview with Catch Club, Baszler was asked whether she sees herself taking on a coaching or producer role in the future. While she did not rule out the idea, she emphasized that she still wants to compete and believes she has more to accomplish before stepping into a full-time teaching position. “Yeah, I mean, it’s something that’s very fulfilling to me, coaching, helping people learn about wrestling. So I think I have a lot to give in the ring still, so I want to concentrate on that and get that out of my system,” she responded. Her comments suggest that coaching is not off the table, but it is not something she intends to pursue immediately.
Baszler also spoke about how her experience makes coaching a logical next step when the time comes. “But I think obviously the natural progression would be to coach. You know, I always say, people sometimes go to school, they go to college, university for 10 years to become a doctor or a professor or something like that. I spent all my time learning combat arts, so my university was in the martial arts gym, learning how to submit people. So I think the natural progression, that’s where my level of expertise is. So it just makes sense to pass that on. I had really good coaches, as you mentioned, that did that for me, so I think I’d like to pass that on too.” Her background in mixed martial arts, grappling, and technical wrestling is a significant part of her identity, and she views her experience as something that should eventually benefit future generations.
The interview was recorded earlier this month while Baszler was in Europe to compete for an independent promotion in France. She has remained active since leaving WWE, continuing to travel and compete, including making her House of Glory debut in New York this past weekend where she defeated Maki Itoh. As of now, her journey remains focused on competing, while the door to coaching appears to be open whenever she decides the time is right.
