Ricky Steamboat Shares Candid Thoughts On AEW Blood & Guts Women’s Match – WWE Hall of Famer Ricky Steamboat recently reflected on his involvement at last week’s AEW Blood & Guts event during an interview conducted by Bill Apter of 1Wrestling. Steamboat appeared live in Greensboro, North Carolina, where he delivered an in-ring promo before an exchange with FTR. The segment later saw Bandido and Brody King arrive to back him up, creating a moment designed to pay respect to his legacy while also involving current AEW talent.
During the conversation, Steamboat turned his attention to the Women’s Blood & Guts match that opened the broadcast and offered an honest opinion on its structure. While he made sure to acknowledge the effort put in by the competitors, he felt that the bout suffered due to the number of wrestlers involved and the fast-moving action occurring in several areas of the rings at once. “God bless those girls that were in that match, but I didn’t care for it,” Steamboat said. “I don’t know if it was just too much. I thought, personally, they had 16 girls in there or something like that, that there’s just too much going on.” He continued by describing why it became difficult to follow. “Over in this one corner two girls are doing something, two or three girls are doing something in the middle of the ring, then you go to the other ring and two or three girls are doing something. You just couldn’t focus on anything because there was just so much going on, and for me it’s hard to react.“
Despite his critique of the match format, Steamboat also spoke positively regarding his treatment at the event and the professionalism shown to him. He explained that several wrestlers privately told him that the company president is supportive of talent and provides strong backstage leadership. “First class operation,” Steamboat said of AEW. “Tony Khan does a lot for the boys.”
