Becky Lynch and Seth Rollins Discuss Promos in Wrestling – A new episode of Something’s Burning premiered this week, featuring comedian Bert Kreischer sitting down with Becky Lynch and her husband Seth Rollins. During the conversation, Lynch explained what she believes truly defines a great wrestler and why connecting with the audience always begins before the bell ever rings.

When Kreischer asked what she considers the most important element of being a great wrestler, Lynch answered without hesitation. She said: “I would say a great promo. Because if you haven’t told the story, then nobody is going to care about what you do in the — the hardest part is getting them to care about what you’re doing in the ring. And if they have no reason to care, then your work is just so much harder as a wrestler. So if you can get that by the promo, then you’re already in.”

Lynch explained that promos were always her favorite part of wrestling. She spent her early years constantly thinking about them, writing them, and trying to understand how they could pull fans into the story before any physical action happened. She said: “Promos for me, that was what I always loved, right? So that’s what I was always thinking about, always writing down. I was just promos.”

Rollins, however, had a completely different experience growing up as a fan. He admitted that he had no interest in promos at all and only cared about the in-ring action. He said: “I was the opposite. I didn’t give two sh*ts about promos. I didn’t care about them at all, I just cared about the wrestling. I was the guy in, like, my teens that just wanted to watch the cruiserweights. I was like, ‘I don’t care about these big idiots talking. Like, get [this] Kevin Nash out of here. I want to watch Rey Mysterio and Juventud Guerrera.’ And I kind of carried that over. I was like, ‘Wrestling, wrestling, wrestling, wrestling. They need to be able to work, you know? Screw John Cena, I like Rob Van Dam.’ That was my mindset as I was growing up. And then, consequently, I was awful at promos. I was a really bad promo early in my career.”
