Lash Legend Reflects On SmackDown Call-Up, Support System, Her Five Years In NXT – Lash Legend recently spoke with Denise Salcedo about her official move to the SmackDown roster and the appreciation she carries for her time in NXT. Legend is set to compete in the women’s WarGames match at WWE Survivor Series this Saturday in San Diego, marking one of the biggest moments of her career to date. The timing of her call-up comes almost a year after she briefly appeared on SmackDown, and Legend explained that the move did not catch her off guard.
When asked whether she was surprised, Legend said: “Honestly? No. I think, honestly, the past year I’ve been knowing that… I’ve just been having a feeling of knowing in my gut since we had the storyline around this time last year, honestly, with the tag division. I’ve just known since then, ‘okay, surely, surely I should be up there soon. And so I’ve just been very optimistic. It wasn’t a matter of if, it was a matter of when.
I was very happy, though, when it officially did happen.”
Legend also talked about the strong support system around her, including her real-life partner, Trick Williams. She said: “I’m very grateful. I’ve had a lot of great support, like I’ve just had a great support system. Obviously my man [Trick] is here, he understands the business as well and he’s been super supportive.
And having the girls on the main roster being so supportive even though I wasn’t, like, officially on there. Like, Nia [Jax]’s been supportive, Bianca Belair, Naomi. Like these girls have been so nice and uplifting me. And Bianca was just always like, ‘It’s going to happen, it’s going to happen.’
“I’m just grateful for that, honestly. I feel like a lot of these women have me a lot of hope. And then when [getting called up] officially happened, just having all the support and love, it was very nice to see.”
Legend also thanked fans, staff, and the crew behind the scenes before reflecting on her growth in NXT. She said: “I’m grateful. I was there for five years and it was a lot of different opportunities, some special moments, highs and lows. I’m just grateful. I’m grateful for every single thing I endured at NXT.
I’m grateful for all the relationships I have with the coaches, with Shawn Michaels, just everybody. It’s helped me. I think the reason why I can go [to the SmackDown roster] right now is because of everything I learned during that time.
So even if I felt like, okay, I was supposed to be up a year ago, if that was the case? Like, no, I’m grateful that I was there as long as I was because I kept learning, kept learning, and it literally prepared me for where I am right now.”
