AEW Dynamite Preview: Continental Classic Tournament, Samoa Joe Celebration

AEW Dynamite Preview: Continental Classic Tournament, Samoa Joe Celebration – AEW has officially released the first set of matches for this year’s Continental Classic, with tournament action beginning on tonight’s episode of Dynamite.

The round-robin tournament, introduced in 2023 and often compared to NJPW’s G1 Climax, will run throughout December and conclude at the Worlds End Premium Live Event. The eventual winner will capture the Continental Championship, adding weight to every match from the opening bell to the finals.

This year’s tournament is split into two blocks: the Gold League and the Blue League. One of the most notable Gold League matches will see Kyle Fletcher and Kazuchika Okada square off. Both competitors are members of The Don Callis Family, and their growing alliance adds an interesting dynamic to their meeting. Okada enters the tournament as the reigning Unified AEW Champion and is already a past winner of the Continental Classic, having captured the tournament in 2024 by defeating Will Ospreay in the finals. Also in the Gold League, Darby Allin will face JetSpeed’s Kevin Knight. Both men rely on a fast, high-risk style, making their opening contest one of the most anticipated early tournament clashes.

The Blue League will include a major bout as Jon Moxley takes on CMLL’s Mascara Dorada. Moxley, who is competing in the Continental Classic for the third consecutive year, enters Dynamite looking to recover from a No Holds Barred loss to Kyle O’Reilly at Full Gear. The Blue League lineup features heavy representation from members of The Conglomeration and The Death Riders, hinting at the possibility of internal tension as the tournament progresses. Moxley remains one of the favorites in a block that also includes Claudio Castagnoli, Orange Cassidy, Konosuke Takeshita, and Roderick Strong.

Outside the tournament, Dynamite will feature a celebration from The Opps following Samoa Joe’s AEW World Championship victory at Full Gear. The moment was shaped by Hook’s unexpected betrayal of Hangman Adam Page, as Hook used the AEW World Championship to strike Page and directly assist Joe in winning the title.

The current lineup for the November 26 Dynamite broadcast includes:

  • AEW Continental Classic Gold League: Kyle Fletcher vs. Kazuchika Okada
  • AEW Continental Classic Gold League: Darby Allin vs. Kevin Knight
  • AEW Continental Classic Blue League: Jon Moxley vs. Mascara Dorada
  • The Opps celebrate new AEW World Champion Samoa Joe

All Continental Classic matches will operate under strict rules, including a 20-minute time limit and a complete ban on outside interference. Both block finals and the overall tournament finale will take place at AEW Worlds End on Saturday, December 27, at the Now Arena in Chicago, Illinois.
