Lance Anoa’i Announces WWE Departure – Lance Anoa’i, a member of the legendary Anoa’i wrestling dynasty, has officially announced his departure from WWE. On Friday, October 10, Anoa’i took to X to share the news, confirming that his time with the company has come to an end and that he intends to resume his career on the independent scene.
“I would officially announce my departure from WWE!” Anoa’i wrote. “I didn’t have the best of luck since I arrived! I will not let this stop me from achieving to be great! I’ve worked hard on the indies for 15 years! Now let’s get back to work! 30days.” He also included a business email for bookings, signaling that he is open for independent appearances.
The “30 days” mentioned in his post likely refers to a standard 30-day non-compete clause, which applies to many talents under WWE’s NXT contracts. Once the clause expires, Anoa’i will become a free agent and can begin taking bookings with other promotions in early November.
A third-generation performer, Lance is part of one of wrestling’s most storied families. He is the son of Samula Anoa’i—best known as Samu of The Wild Samoans and The Headshrinkers—and the grandson of WWE Hall of Famer Afa Anoa’i. Lance made his professional debut in 2010, gaining experience through his family’s World Xtreme Wrestling (WXW) promotion and several independent organizations, including MCW and House of Hardcore.
Before signing with WWE, Anoa’i had a notable stint in Major League Wrestling (MLW) from 2018 to 2023. Teaming with Juicy Finau as part of the Samoan SWAT Team, he captured the MLW World Tag Team Championship, holding the belts for 182 days. He also wrestled for Pro Wrestling NOAH in Japan during that period.
Anoa’i made several brief WWE appearances prior to officially signing in 2024. His most memorable came in 2019 when he faced Shane McMahon on RAW before being saved by his cousin, Roman Reigns. After joining WWE full-time, he was assigned to NXT but was sidelined by injury before making his televised debut. In January 2025, he was listed under the WWE ID program and expected to join the Evolve roster before his release.
