Darby Allin Says AEW Locker Room Morale Is “Amazing” After “Cancer” Was Removed – AEW star Darby Allin recently spoke with Ariel Helwani, offering an unfiltered look at the current mood inside AEW’s locker room. The former TNT Champion described the environment as the best it has ever been, crediting the improvement to the removal of what he called “cancer” from within the roster.
“It’s amazing. I’m not just saying that,” Allin told Helwani. “Say, a few years ago, you definitely felt this tension, but now it’s like, everybody’s on the same page. Let’s make this place as good as possible… I feel like right now, more than ever, everybody’s on the same wavelength. Everybody has the same goals.”
When asked what changed, Allin didn’t hold back. “The cancer got cut out, which is just egotistical wrestlers that don’t want to lose,” he said.
Allin went on to criticize those who bring ego into the business, emphasizing that professional wrestling is a cooperative form of entertainment. “At the end of the day, this is all staged. It’s the greatest thing in the world, but it’s staged. So if you’re going to have an ego about that, get out of the fucking sport,” he stated. “Go be in the UFC. Go try. Don’t be bringing that shit here. This is about having fun… I don’t like egos. I can’t stand them.”
Allin’s remarks about “tension” and “cancer” being removed are widely interpreted as a reference to the backstage conflict involving CM Punk, which led to Punk’s termination from AEW in September 2023. Since his departure, several AEW talents have publicly commented on a more unified and cooperative atmosphere within the company.
Currently, Allin remains one of AEW’s top stars and is preparing to challenge “Hangman” Adam Page for the AEW World Championship at the Full Gear pay-per-view on November 22, 2025.
