AEW Security Chief Addresses Controversial Darby Allin Segment On Dynamite – AEW’s head of security has broken his silence regarding the chaotic and fiery conclusion to this week’s AEW Dynamite: Title Tuesday episode, which aired live from Daily’s Place in Jacksonville, Florida.
The show ended with a shocking moment as Darby Allin appeared ready to throw a Molotov cocktail at Jon Moxley and The Death Riders. Just before he could act, AEW security rushed in and forcefully tackled him to the ground. The segment was so realistic that it left many fans wondering whether the security team had been clued in on the plan or if they genuinely believed Allin was about to cause a dangerous incident on live television.
Bryan Alvarez of F4WOnline.com provided some behind-the-scenes clarification over the weekend, revealing that AEW’s head of security, Sam Hemingway, was indeed aware of the spot in advance. According to Alvarez, Hemingway deliberately made the scene look authentic to heighten the realism of the closing angle.
“Security guy on AEW Dynamite, Sam, was 100-percent smartened up on the Darby spot,” Alvarez reported. “But he wanted to make it look legit, like what would happen if some lunatic actually pulled out a bomb or something on a show. He’s been working security for wrestling dating back to the ECW Atlas Security days.”
Hemingway, a longtime industry veteran who previously worked for ECW’s Atlas Security, later issued his own statement on social media to explain his perspective on the segment.
“My actions had nothing to do with the ‘show’ and everything to do with the safety of others,” Hemingway wrote. “You can debate the tackle. I’m just glad we’re not dealing with the alternative headlines that read, ‘Unhinged AEW talent seriously injured Jacksonville fans. Numerous lawsuits are filed.’”
The controversial moment has only intensified the rivalry between Allin and Moxley. Their violent feud is expected to reach another level at AEW WrestleDream 2025, where the two will face off in an “I Quit” Match on Saturday, October 18, at Chaifetz Arena in St. Louis, Missouri.
