WWE Addresses Lesnar’s Return During RAW and Who Made the Call – During Monday night’s post-SummerSlam edition of WWE RAW, longtime commentary duo Michael Cole and Corey Graves appeared on camera to subtly address the controversy surrounding Brock Lesnar’s return. Lesnar, who had been away from WWE for more than two years, made his shocking return at the end of SummerSlam Sunday, attacking John Cena following his loss to Cody Rhodes.
As seen below, Cole took a moment to reveal that he had personally spoken with WWE President Nick Khan and Chief Content Officer Paul “Triple H” Levesque about why the company decided to bring back Lesnar. According to Cole, the two top WWE executives reached out to “The Beast Incarnate” several weeks ago and told him directly, “We believe it’s time for you to come home.”
The return was not without controversy. Many fans online questioned WWE’s decision to spotlight Lesnar so heavily, particularly for his alleged involvement in the ongoing Janel Grant lawsuit against Vince McMahon and WWE. However, the numbers tell a different story. WWE claimed that Brock Lesnar’s return segment on SummerSlam Sunday drew more than 75 million views on social media in the first 12 hours after the event aired, showcasing the significant interest his comeback generated.
Lesnar’s return was clearly timed to spark a major storyline heading into the fall season, likely revolving around a feud with John Cena, whose apparent heel turn earlier this year was quietly walked back before SummerSlam. The attack on Cena sets the stage for what could be one final blockbuster program for both stars.
Though fans voiced frustration, WWE seems committed to pushing Lesnar as a major attraction once again.
