Pat McAfee Lands Acting Debut in Netflix Film The Mosquito Bowl – Netflix has confirmed that former WWE RAW commentator and sports personality Pat McAfee will officially make his acting debut in the upcoming war drama The Mosquito Bowl. Directed by Peter Berg, the film adapts Buzz Bissinger’s 2022 book The Mosquito Bowl: A Game of Life and Death in World War II.
McAfee has been cast in the supporting role of a U.S. Marine drill instructor. The story centers on four college football players who enlisted in the Marines following the 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor. The film’s title comes from a real football game played between two Marine regiments on Guadalcanal on Christmas Eve, 1944, just months before many of the soldiers faced deadly battles in the Pacific.
“Joining the cast in the supporting role of a US Marine drill instructor is American sports analyst and host Pat McAfee,” Netflix’s Stephan Lee wrote for Tudum.
Production began earlier this month in Queensland, Australia, which also explains McAfee’s absence from The Pat McAfee Show. Since August 14, the program has been run by guest hosts while McAfee films overseas.
This marks a major career shift for McAfee, who in July stepped away from his commentary role on WWE RAW, citing burnout as the main reason. Known for his high-energy personality and crossover appeal between sports and entertainment, McAfee now adds acting to his expanding résumé.
