Kazuchika Okada Sets AEW Record for Longest Championship Reign – Kazuchika Okada has officially etched his name into AEW history, becoming the longest-reigning champion the company has ever seen.
Okada’s reign began on the March 20, 2024 episode of AEW Dynamite, when he defeated Eddie Kingston to capture the AEW Continental Championship. Over the months that followed, he solidified his dominance with defenses against top-tier opponents including “Speedball” Mike Bailey, Bryan Danielson, and Will Ospreay. His championship run reached a major turning point at AEW All In 2025, where he faced Kenny Omega in a high-profile bout. That night, Okada not only retained his Continental Championship but also unified it with the AEW International Championship, further cementing his status at the top of the roster.
On August 11, 2025, Okada’s title reign hit the 509-day mark, surpassing Jade Cargill’s 508-day run as TBS Champion to become the longest single title reign in AEW history. While this milestone is historic for the company, Okada still trails behind the all-time record for AEW and Ring of Honor talent combined — a mark held by Athena, who reigned as ROH Women’s Champion for nearly 1,000 days.
Okada’s reign has been defined not just by its length, but by the quality of matches and caliber of opponents. Whether taking on seasoned veterans or emerging stars, he has consistently delivered, reinforcing his reputation as one of the world’s premier wrestlers.
The “Rainmaker” is not slowing down either. His next major defense is set for AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door, where he will go head-to-head with Swerve Strickland in what promises to be another marquee showdown.
