Ilja Dragunov Cleared for WWE Return – Ilja Dragunov is officially cleared for an in-ring return after nearly a year on the sidelines with a torn ACL. The former NXT Champion last wrestled on September 28, 2024, at a WWE SuperShow in Columbus, Georgia, before being forced out of action.
According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE is waiting for the right creative direction to reintroduce Dragunov to television. While there is no firm date for his return, Bodyslam.net is reporting that his name has been brought up in recent internal creative discussions, with ideas for his comeback still being explored.
Dragunov’s absence has been felt in WWE, especially given the momentum he had built prior to the injury. Known for his intense physical style and never-say-die attitude, he had solidified himself as one of the most respected performers in NXT, where he previously reigned as champion. His fiery matches against the likes of GUNTHER, Carmelo Hayes, and Trick Williams helped establish him as a standout talent capable of delivering on big stages.
With Dragunov now healthy, anticipation is building over when and where he will resurface. WWE’s current creative landscape leaves room for several potential storylines, whether it be a high-profile return on RAW or SmackDown or a reintroduction through NXT. Fans are eager to see how WWE positions him following such a lengthy layoff.
As of now, all signs point to his return being only weeks away, with company officials reportedly intent on maximizing the impact of his comeback.
